On Nov. 15, it was reported that a 66-year-old man was killed in a car accident after a two-vehicle collision. According to the report, the two people who were involved in the crash were eventually identified by the Minnesota State Patrol.

The incident took place near 710th Street on Highway 56, just north of Hayfield. At approximately 5:37 a.m., a 2002 Chevy truck was heading north when the 19-year-old driver of the vehicle made an attempt to pass the vehicle in front of him. He did this by crossing the center lane into oncoming traffic. He collided head-on with a 2014 Ford Focus that was heading south. The collision resulted in the death of the Ford Focus driver while the driver of the Chevy truck suffered serious injuries.

When head-on car accidents occur, those who are involved are at risk for suffering serious injuries. However, these types of accidents can also be fatal, as was the case here.

The surviving family members of a person who has been killed in a motor vehicle accident often have to cope with severe financial consequences in addition to grieving over the sudden loss of their loved one. In the immediate term, funeral and burial expenses have to be paid, but a more longer-lasting issue could be if the decedent was the family breadwinner. In such a case, those contributions to family finances will somehow have to be replaced. When the accident was caused by the negligence of another motorist, as head-on collisions often are, then an attorney might find it advisable to file a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the family seeking appropriate damages from the at-fault driver.
