According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Chevy pickup truck was involved in a single-vehicle accident in Chisago County. As a result of the Sept. 30 incident, two people suffered injuries, one of them fatal.

Officials said the pickup truck was heading south on Interstate 35 at about 8:45 p.m., when it drifted off the roadway and into a ditch adjacent to the interstate. Consequently, the pickup truck flipped over.

Officials at the scene of the accident pronounced the driver of the vehicle dead. A 57-year-old passenger in the truck suffered injuries that officials did not consider to be life-threatening.

Reportedly, the Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the accident with help from the North Branch Police Department and the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office. It was not immediately clear whether police suspect that alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident.

If, hypothetically, further investigation in this case were to yield a slew of evidence indicating that alcohol or drugs did in fact contribute to the accident, then the passenger who suffered injuries may be eligible to pursue civil action against the estate of the driver. For, when people are injured in traffic accidents attributed to impaired driving, they may file a personal injury claim as a means of recovering pecuniary losses associated with their injuries.

Claimants in a personal injury lawsuit may seek financial compensation for hospital bills, medical expenses, rehabilitation costs and even lost wages if their injuries proved to be disabling. These damages may amount to a significant sum of money, especially when the victims suffered injuries in an SUV rollover crash or accident in which a truck flips. For, the injuries that result from such incidents oftentimes require extensive and costly medical care.
