A crash involving a motorcycle on Aug. 10 left one man dead in Minneapolis. Police report that incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. at Julliard Street and Fawn Lake Drive.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, a 56-year-old man behind the wheel of a truck was heading west on Fawn Lake. The man attempted to make a left turn onto Julliard Street in front of an oncoming eastbound motorcycle, causing it to hit the front side of the truck.

The 30-year-old motorcycle rider suffered critical injuries, and he was declared dead at the accident scene. The truck driver was not hurt in the wreck. Police indicated that alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor and that the cause of the accident is still being investigated.

After a fatal motorcycle crash, a decedent’s family may face mounting final expenses while they deal with the emotional grief of losing a loved one. In order to recover some of the expenses stemming from the crash, a family may decide to retain the services of a personal injury lawyer in order to file a claim for wrongful death.

If at the time of the accident a driver was found to be fatigued, distracted or inebriated, he or she could be considered liable for the wreck and face possible charges. A lawyer representing a family could then cite the charges as evidence of driver negligence to help substantiate the claim. Damages for loss of companionship, loss of expected contributions of income, funeral costs and medical expenses may be recovered through a claim.
