BMW will recall about 720,000 vehicles. The company found an issue with the electrical connectors of its water pump that could lead to a fire. The recall affected X1, X3, X5 and other models.
Insufficient sealing
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), improper sealing with the water pump’s connector could leak water and cause a short circuit that could lead to a fire.
Affected models
The recall will affect the following models:
- 2014-2016 models 228I, 228XI, 428I
- 2012-2016 models 328I, 328XI, 528I, Z4
- 2015-2016 428XI

- 2013-2017 X3
- 2015-2018 X4

BMW advises affected model owners to contact their customer service for further information.
What if you got into an accident with one of these cars?
The manufacturer might be liable if the recall issue contributed to the accident. However, if the owner was aware of the recall order and failed to get their car fixed, they might share liability with the manufacturer.
If the cause of the accident was something else, then Minneapolis laws follow. Since Minnesota is a no-fault insurance state, your and the other driver’s insurance must cover out-of-pocket losses. You may recover additional compensation if the other party was proven negligent.
What you need to do
If the accident caused $1,000 or more damage or caused death or injury, you must file a report with the authorities within ten days. Contact your insurance company and report the accident.
If you are having trouble filing or recovering claims, consider consulting an attorney to help you navigate these complex issues.
